On April 17th 2014, we welcomed a lively group of Y.O.U. (Youth Organizations Umbrella, Inc.) students to Northwestern for a reading celebrating their talent and accomplishments in the Voice Within Us program. A limited edition chapbook of their work was released by Damask Press to celebrate the occasion. The Voice Within Us program consists of a series of poetry workshops with Evanston high school students. The workshops are led by talented Northwestern students and overseen by faculty associated with Northwestern’s Poetry and Poetics Colloquium. The Poetry and Poetics Colloquium began the Voice Within Us program in collaboration with the English Department of Evanston Township High School. It has since expanded into a partnership with Y.O.U., a youth development agency that provides services and leadership to meet the emerging needs of young people and their families in the Evanston community.
